We are a specialist gastroenterology practice offering consultations, gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures. We strive to provide a high-quality and timely service to general practitioners and patients for the investigation and management of a range gastrointestinal conditions and symptoms. Our expertise extends from bowel cancer screening and polyp surveillance to gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, iron deficiency, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and liver diseases. The care we provide is patient-centred, with a focus on preventative and proactive strategies, as we believe this ultimately provides the best long-term outcomes and quality of life for our patients.

At Gastro Practice Melbourne, we are committed to providing up-to-date, evidence-based specialist advice in a comfortable and friendly environment. Our main consulting rooms are located at 26 Grange Road in Alphington, on the ground floor with plenty of on-site parking available. We are located close to the Chandler Highway exit of the Eastern Freeway or a 15-minute drive from Melbourne CBD. Alternatively, we can be reached by public transport with an 8-minute walk from Alphington train station (via the Hurstbridge line).
Our other consulting locations include Hawthorn East and Eltham, both with free on-site parking available.

Gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures are performed at Epworth Eastern (Box Hill), Adeney Private (Kew) and the Victorian Day Procedure Centre (Heidelberg).

Screening Options:
National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP)
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program is offered to all Australians aged 45-74, at no cost. It involves a testing kit that detects blood in the stool. If you are aged between 50-74, the testing kit is sent to you every 2 years. If you are aged between 45-49, you can request a free testing kit by clicking on ncsr.gov.au/request-a-free-bowel-test-kit.
If blood is detected in the stool, you should proceed to a colonoscopy.
Colonoscopy
Symptoms may include blood in the stool, a change in bowel habit, change in stool consistency, unexplained weight loss and iron deficiency or anaemia. At-risk individuals may include those with a family history of bowel cancer, polyposis syndromes or previous polyps.

Dr Anke Nguyen
B.MedSci (Honours), MBBS, FRACP, PhD
Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist
Dr Anke Nguyen is an experienced, PhD-qualified gastroenterologist and endoscopist who completed her advanced gastroenterology training in major tertiary referral centres including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Health. After becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Anke pursued 1.5 years of further sub-specialty training and research at one of Europe's largest university teaching hospitals and leading medical institution, Charité Universitӓtsmedizin - Berlin in Germany. She was subsequently awarded a PhD by Monash University, investigating predictors of inflammation in inflammatory bowel diseases. Anke's research has been published in high-impact gastroenterology journals and presented at both national and international conferences, demonstrating her commitment to advancing gastroenterological care through research and clinical innovation.
Anke holds a senior Gastroenterologist position at Eastern Health and Austin Health. She actively contributes to medical education, with supervision of gastroenterology trainees and teaching in endoscopic procedures. Anke is also nationally and internationally certified to perform intestinal ultrasound and is a trainer for other gastroenterologists and gastroenterology trainees. Anke's global experience and leadership roles provide her with expertise in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of gastrointestinal disorders.
Outside of work, Anke enjoys exploring nature with her young family, staying active and cooking new recipes. Anke speaks fluent English and German.
